Lucas Bjerregaard newq leader in Shanghai
Just a few weeks after almost winning the UBS Hong Kong Open, Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard has the lead in the biggest tournament of the moment, shooting a second straight 66 on Friday to lead the BMW Masters by three strokes.
A 5-under 31 on the front nine set the tone that has him up three strokes on Day 1 leader Sergio Garcia and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.
Bjerregaard is just 55th in the Race to Dubai standings, but could make a significant push and be rewarded financially if he can keep his spot atop the leaderboard.
England’s Danny Willett, who needs to finish at least 28th to overtake Rory McIlroy for first place in the Race to Dubai standings, fired a 3-under 69 to reach 4-under and is now tied for 32nd.
