The Group Managing Director of LEADERSHIP Holdings, Chief Mike Okpere, has been elected the new captain of the Kaduna Golf Club.
Okpere, who was a part of the club’s last executive committee, was elected at the club’s annual general meeting (AGM) over the weekend.
Okpere scored 47 per cent to emerge the winner, beating three others; Idris Saeed (41 per cent), William Asuku (8 per cent) and Z.W Gaiya, who withdrew from the race for personal reasons.
Italian Guiseppe Bellini garnered 53 per cent of the votes to become Okpere’s vice captain, after defeating Emmanuel Owoicho (45 per cent).
Okpere, who emergence was loudly cheered, will be expected to tackle some of the problems assailing the club’s development head-long and must, thus, look for ways to return the club to its glory days, when it used to be the leading golf club in the country.
In his acceptance speech, the new captain thanked the club for trusting the new executive committee with their votes and called on everyone to put the elections behind them and work together for the progress of the club in the next one year and beyond.
All the club’s members walked to the one-tee hole to tee-off and toast the new executive committee.
