Odegha Ends the Year as Plateau Champion

Minna Cantonment Golf Club professional Sunday Odegha beat the field with three strokes on Friday to pick the 2016 Governor’s Cup at the Lamingo Golf Club in Plateau State.

Odegha, a former Order of Merit leader posted his best score of the week, 69, three under par to shove aside early leader Mustapha Abdullahi who had hope to take the Governor’s Cup for his maiden win.

“It is a brilliant way to end the year” says Mike Alika, the General Manager of the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria.

“I think his form of late has been up there and a win like this will help justify all the hardwork he has put into his game this season.”

Abdullahi,  the early leader at the four-day event carded a level par on his final round, which was too weak to stop rampaging Odegha as both had teed-off having equal chance at the trophy.

“I think Odegha deserved his win. And to finish the second place I had to fight back. I had an eight on hole four; it was a big setback for me but I was able to save the day after eleven pars and three birdies to finis level today” he added.

Francis Onuh was one of the biggest casualties of the closing round after he turned in 83, eleven over par while playing with the leading group.
